Animal Welfare!

For Yarrah as an organic pet food company, the most important aspect of organic agriculture is the very high regard for animal welfare. Poultry, cattle and fish form the basis of our premium Nature's Finest pet food. It is therefore crucial that these animals are treated with dignity and respect. Organic agriculture guarantees that the animals have room to move and grow at a natural rate in an environment that minimises stress. Yarrah's kinder approach to farming and its use of free range chicken, as well as the fact that all Yarrah products can be traced to the farm of origin; we have won recognition by the Ethical Consumer magazine, which placed Yarrah first in a survey researching pet food production methods.

 

  

No Animal Testing!

Yarrah deliberately rejects any and all animal testing. Any palatability tests (to gauge the pets acceptance of the product) are carried out in the pets natural home setting. Yarrah does not allow any of our foods to be tested using either captive animals or invasive testing techniques.

Pet Health!

Organic agriculture means that poultry, cattle and fish are fed with organic feed that is free from genetically modified organisms (GMO's). Our animal and plant ingredients are not exposed to hormones, herbicides and pesticides which are prohibited during cultivation and/or breeding. Yarrah does not add any chemical colourings, aromatic substances or flavourings and preserve our pet food with vitamins and minerals.

Our natural and organic recipes contain all the required vitamins, minerals, proteins and amino acids your dog or cat requires in the correct proportions. Yarrah Organic Petfood can ensure that your dog or cat stays in excellent condition.

In the Netherlands this is the EKO hallmark. Whenever this hallmark is allocated to a product, the organic origin of that product is guaranteed. Skal is the only independent international inspection organisation for the organic production in the Netherlands that can grant permission to use the EKO hallmark. In order to gain permission to use the EKO hallmark all organic producers, farmers as well as processors, are constantly supervised and checked upon by control authorities from Skal. Because of these extensive measures of control and supervision, the quality and organic origin of all EKO products is absolutely guaranteed. 	Since 2002, Yarrah Organic Petfood has been registered under the company name Vink Sales BV with KRAV licence number 20002605-01. KRAV is an independent organisation for the supervision of organic production in Sweden. Following strict regulations, KRAV gives out organic certificates.KRAV is accredited through IFOAM.
	In 2008, Yarrah Organic Petfood was certified and accredited by the NorwegianDebio authority. Debio deals with the inspection of organic production in accordance with the Norwegian "Regulations on the Production and Labelling of Organic Agricultural Products". The inspection services are based on an agreement with the Norwegian Food Safety Authority, and the regulation is based on the EU Council Regulation 2092/91. It covers farming, processing, import and marketing of organic agricultural products. Debio ensures that farms and fish farms, processing and marketing enterprises, importers and others follow the regulations for organic production, and meet the requirements for marketing organic products under Debio's Ø-label.

Fortunately cardboard is fairly easy to recycle, so by using recycled cardboard we can help save our forests! The other great feature of recycled cardboard is that it is biodegradable. This means products like our Becohangers are not only easy to recycle, but are also safe if they do ever end up in landfill sites.
Our most important material in the Becothings range is our plastic replacement made from natural plant fibres. It is actually a biocomposite which means it is a mix of biodegradable materials. Around 80% of the material is made up of fibres from bamboo and rice husks. Rice husks are a by-product of rice production, so it is a great material to use as it is normally thrown away! Although you might picture bamboo as tall thin trees, it is actually a breed of grass and so grows incredible fast. This means all the bamboo we use can be sustainably grown. Both these materials are mixed with a resin created from amino acids. It is this resin that bonds all the fibres together. Importantly it also allows the mix to break down. When you place a plant fibre product in warm, damp conditions, like a compost heap or buried in the ground, the resin will start to break down. This in-turn allows the fibres to break down, eventually the product will fully biodegrade away. This process will usually take around 2 to 3 years depending on the environmental conditions.
